Dr Antonio Ceriello

MD,PhD

  • Prof. Dr Antonio Ceriello is the Head of Diabetes Department at IRCCS MultiMedica, Milan, Italy.
  • Prof. Ceriello has chaired the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Committee for the development of the “Guideline for Management of Postmeal Glucose” in 2008, and its update in 2011.
  • He is currently the President of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Study Group on Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases.
  • He has also served as a Member of the Board for the development of the new “European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines on Diabetes, Pre-diabetes, and Cardiovascular Diseases, in collaboration with the EASD.
  • Dr Ceriello has served as Associate Editor of “Diabetes Care” from 2003 to 2011, and of “Diabetic Medicine” from 2005 to 2016. Since July 1, 2016 he has been serving as Editor-in-Chief of “Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice,” the official journal of the IDF.

  • Dr Rajiv Awasthi is the Director of Prarthana Clinic & Diabetes Care Centre, Lucknow with over 35 years of experience.
  • He is the President of the Lucknow Diabetes Study Group and the Past Chairman of the Association of Physicians of India (API), Lucknow Chapter.
  • He has completed training fellowship in Diabetes at the Joslin Institute, USA, and the Baker Institute, Australia.
  • Dr Awasthi has presented his research at eminent gatherings such as the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), and the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Summarise the impact of the collective burden of these diseases on cardiovascular health.
  • Apply current guideline-based diagnostic criteria for hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, and diabetes.
  • Choose optimal hypertension and hyperlipidemia management guidance from ACC/AHA/ESC, and interpret recent management updates as recommended in the ADA/EASD Diabetes Guidelines.
  • Compare key differences in recommendations between various organisations.
